Woke up to a snowstorm and -5 C but the snow quit by the time we left home at 9:00 am. Had an uneventful drive to the airport, parked the car and jumped onto the shuttle to take us to the terminal. We checked in with Air Canada, had our two suitcases tagged thru to Rome, then sat down to a late breakfast at Montana’s in the terminal. Our flight boarded and taxied out on time at 1: 25 pm. It was an uneventful flight to Toronto. Changing airlines in Toronto, we checked it to the Alitalia counter for our boarding passes. However, the seats they assigned us were not the ones we had reserved. Alitalia had, without an explanation, changed them to two aisle seats across from each other at the rear of the plane. Not very happy about the change, we set about changing or upgrading our seats for the flight to Rome. Long story short, we ended up in Alitalia Classica Plus (business) Class in seats 9D & 9G. Had the row of three to ourselves, no one in the row ahead and only one gent in the row behind. And, we left Toronto 20 minutes early.. click picture to enlarge The only real issue with the flight was that I never got the meal I asked for. I was supposed to have gotten seafood cannelloni which wasn’t on the menu but was offered. For some unknown reason I ended up with lame pasta noodles in a tasteless ketchup sauce. Both our meals were terrible but the rest of the service was great, the movies were good (we watched Ironman 3) and there was lots of room to sprawl. Got about 6 hours sleep so we woke up fairly refreshed. |
