We were up at 7:00 am for a complimentary breakfast in the lobby. Checked out of our hotel and caught the shuttle back to the airport.

Departed Rome bound for Paris, France on Alitalia AZ7300 at 10:20 am. After a brief stopover we boarded Air France AF356 at 1:55 pm for our leg from Paris to Toronto. We left Toronto for our final flight to Edmonton on WestJet WS441 at 6:55 pm. Two very weary travellers arrived at Edmonton International Airport at 9:05 pm. Picked up our suitcases and as we had cleared customs in Toronto it was out of the terminal and on our way home in short order.

Arriving home, we went to unpack. My suitcase no problem. Not so for Lee’s Big Red. Try as we might the combination lock would not release. I was finally able to jimmy the lock and get the suitcase open and to our surprise, the contents were not Lee’s! Turns out I had grabbed the wrong Big Red in Toronto. Yes, there were 2 Big Red’s travelling on the same plane at the same time and the wrong one came off the carousel right behind my suitcase. I remembered being surprised that there was no tag on the Big Red I grabbed but I assumed our tag had ripped off.

Long story short, after a few phone calls to Air France, we located the “right” Big Red (which was still going round and round on the conveyor at Toronto customs). Westjet made arrangements to ship the “wrong” Big Red back to Toronto and reunite it with its rightful owner. They also flew our Big Red back to Edmonton. A trip out to the airport the next day to ship “wrong” Big Red (Air France wouldn’t release ours until they had the suitcase we had in hand) and another trip to the airport a couple of days later to pick up “right” Big Red. So, all was now well as Lee was reunited with her dirty laundry and all her memorabilia from the trip.

Big Red was not alone on that conveyor in Toronto. LeVerne’s canes ended up there as well, cuddled up to Big Red.
